SAILORS BURN THEIR SOCKS ON THE VERNAL EQUINOX
On the first day of Autumn, It's starting to get chilly. Sailors put on socks because their boat shoes are getting cold and clammy. They wear the same set of socks all winter.
On the first day of Spring, sailors around the world (at least those who have endured the snows of the Northern Hemisphere) get together around an open fire, open a beer, remove the awful smelling socks they have worn throughout the winter, and cheerfully drop them into the fire while reciting a toast, a limerick, or some other incantation to King Neptune ..... Asking his blessing on the coming sailing season. There's always a kettle of fresh made oyster stew or other sailor grub around to help fight the chill as the sailor's bare feet go back into their boat shoes, ready to go sailing.
The Vernal Equinox in 2018 is on the 20th of March. Don't forget to burn your socks.
You really should be a sailor to get the most enjoyment from burning your socks. If you want to learn, contact the Rich at: sailtheseasllc@gmail.com
